"Tar-lo".The Kiowa are a prairie people, and part
the Shoshone family who occupy the country
around the head-waters of the Arkansas River.
History remembers them as some of fiercest
warriors. Following the Red River War of 1874-75,
in which the Kiowa lost their bid to remain a free
and nomadic people, they were confined to a
reservation within the Indian Territory of Oklahoma.
