SHOOTING STAR SHIELD

This shield was inspired by an old Sioux or Arikara design which represents the spiritual and physical powers of the sky beings - the sun and stars. The shield features an ermine, an important messenger who brought answers for prayers to Wakan Tanka, the Great Mystery. True to history, the shield has wool trade cloth trailer on which a warrior would attach charms or coup feathers earned in battle. The shield is completed with horse hair, imitation eagle feathers, brass bells, glass trade beads, tin cones, and a abalone disc.
