COW SHIELD

This shield is from the Cheyenne heritage. It represents the domestic cow and its magic hoof prints on the earth. As European settlers first arrived in Cheyenne country in the 1800’s they brought with them their domestic animals for food. This shield honors all animals for their food and clothing value to man. The shield is made with a willow hoop, split cowhide, wild turkey feathers, earth paints, and real sinew.
